How to Find and Join a Terraria Server

Terraria's multiplayer transforms the game into a cooperative adventure where players explore, build, and fight bosses together. Whether you want a vanilla playthrough, a tModLoader server with Calamity and Thorium mods, or a PvP arena server, there's a community for you. This guide helps you find and join the right Terraria server.

Vanilla vs Modded Servers

Vanilla Terraria servers run the base game — progression through bosses, exploration, and building with no modifications. These are the most accessible since no additional setup is needed.

tModLoader servers run mods that add new content — bosses, weapons, biomes, and classes. The most popular content mods are Calamity (massive endgame expansion), Thorium (new classes and items), and Spirit Mod. tModLoader is available as a free DLC on Steam.

Some servers focus on specific activities like PvP arenas, building competitions, or adventure maps. Server descriptions on LobbyLink will specify the type.

How to Connect

In Terraria, click Multiplayer from the main menu, then Join via IP. Enter the server IP and port (default 7777) from the LobbyLink listing. You'll also need to enter a password if the server requires one.

For tModLoader servers, launch tModLoader instead of vanilla Terraria (it's a separate entry in your Steam library). Make sure you have the required mods installed through the in-game Mod Browser before connecting.

Terraria supports up to 255 players per server, though most community servers cap at 8-16 for performance.
