How to Find and Join a Project Zomboid Server

Project Zomboid is an isometric zombie survival game with deep survival mechanics, base building, and a massive modding community. Multiplayer transforms the game into a cooperative or competitive experience where players can work together to survive — or betray each other for supplies. This guide helps you find the right server and get connected.

PvP vs PvE Servers

Project Zomboid multiplayer servers generally fall into PvE (cooperative survival against zombies) or PvP (player vs player combat enabled). PvE servers are more popular and focus on collaborative base building, resource sharing, and surviving the zombie apocalypse together.

PvP servers add player combat, which changes the dynamic significantly — you can't trust everyone, and base raiding becomes a real threat. Some servers run hybrid modes with safe zones and PvP zones.

Sandbox settings vary wildly between servers. Some make zombies extremely dangerous with sprinters and hordes, while others create a more relaxed experience. Check the server description on LobbyLink for setting details.

Mods and Workshop

Project Zomboid has excellent Steam Workshop support. Servers can require specific mods, and these download automatically when you connect. Popular mods include custom maps (Raven Creek, Fort Redstone), weapon packs, vehicle mods, and quality-of-life improvements.

If a server requires many mods, the initial download may take several minutes. Be patient on first connection — subsequent joins will be much faster.
