How to Find TF2 Community Servers

Team Fortress 2's community server scene is one of the richest in gaming. Beyond the official Casual and Competitive modes, thousands of community servers offer unique experiences — from classic 12v12 gameplay to Surf, Jump maps, Dodgeball, MvM, and countless other custom modes. This guide helps you navigate TF2's community server landscape.

Community Server Game Modes

TF2 community servers offer far more variety than official matchmaking. Popular modes include:

• Surf — Ride along ramps and gain momentum in skill-based movement maps • Jump — Rocket/sticky jump through obstacle courses • Mann vs Machine (MvM) — Co-op wave defense with custom difficulty and loot settings • Dodgeball — Pyros deflect rockets in an arena • Prophunt — Blend in as a prop and hide from seekers • Trade servers — Social hangouts for trading items • 24/7 payload/KOTH — Classic game modes running specific maps around the clock

Many community servers also disable random crits, adjust respawn times, or run custom weapon stats.

How to Connect

In TF2, click Find a Game, then choose Community Servers at the bottom. The server browser lets you search by name, map, or game mode. You can also filter by player count and ping.

For direct connection, open the developer console (press ~) and type `connect IP:PORT` using the address from the LobbyLink listing. The default port is 27015.

Some servers require you to download custom content (maps, models, sounds). This happens automatically when you connect, but the first join may take a few minutes.
